WORLD

Paper receipts are one of the most wasteful things out there. They're something we need but don't really want, and the vast majority go straight in the bin.

The worst part is that paper receipts are typically not even recyclable. This is because the thermal paper on which they're printed has a special coating which make it difficult to break down.

Thermal printed receipts also often contain BPA or BPS chemicals. There are health concerns that exposure to BPA could cause a range of health problems, such as obesity, heart disease and prostate and breast cancer, as it can disrupt the effects of certain hormones. Whilst the science is still unclear, we'd rather not take the risk!

So, paper receipts are not only bad for our planet, they're bad for us.

The Stats

  • 11.2 billion till receipts in the UK every year.

  • 2 in 3 receipts put straight in the bin.

  • Equivalent of releasing 18m tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere.

It's time to change. Let's make it happen.
